Last week I caught the flu too. One day in bed, tired, hot, freezing, joint pain, and aches and pains all over. And then, on the second day, I was back on my feet. I'm convinced my body reacted faster because I know it and because I support it with the right things. That's exactly what today's topic is: how you can get your immune system ready for autumn with shiitake and chaga.

Natural immune boosters

When the days grow shorter and the air is damp and cold, you feel your energy levels drop. Your body goes into survival mode: less sun means less serotonin, less vitamin D, less drive. But you're not helpless. In the world of medicinal mushrooms, there are two powerful allies to support you now: Shiitake and Chaga.

🍄‍🟫 Shiitake, the bastion of your immune system

The Shiitake Mama I met in Bari put it beautifully: "Mushrooms are great contributors to energetic changes in body and mind."

She sees mushrooms as allies of life itself, helping to restore balance, transform energy, and expand consciousness. When a mushroom grows or has an effect, it never happens by chance. It is part of a larger natural rhythm that can lead us to rest, healing, or insight.

That's exactly what you feel with shiitake mushrooms : they bring order to our system, both physically and energetically.

It is not just a gourmet mushroom from Asia, but a true biological marvel. Shiitake (Lentinula edodes) contains lentinan, eritadenine , and lentin , three substances that have been researched for decades.

  • Lentinan stimulates the immune system and is being investigated in companion cancer therapy.

  • Eritadenine supports fat metabolism and helps regulate cholesterol.

  • Shiitake mushrooms have antiviral, antibacterial, and antioxidant properties . Studies even show liver-protective effects.

  • And lentin ? A small protein with a big impact: it can block HIV enzymes: an exciting approach in modern virology.

A study (Dai et al., 2015) showed that people who regularly consumed shiitake mushrooms had measurably more active immune cells.

Shiitake is therefore more than just an immune booster. It is a protector of your cells, a guardian of your metabolism, a quiet but powerful activator, and in its natural state, a true queen among medicinal mushrooms .

🍄‍🟫 Chaga, the black diamond of the North

Chaga (Inonotus obliquus) grows where winters are long and harsh, on birch trees in the vast, silent forests of Siberia and Northern Europe. Even the Shamans in these regions used it in their rituals to cleanse body and mind, strengthen life force, and drive away diseases.

Its deep black, almost burnt-looking crust reveals its strength: Chaga is an antioxidant super-concentrate full of natural protective substances, an ADAPTOGEN.

Chaga contains betulinic acid, inotodiol, melanin and adaptogenic polysaccharides that help keep your body in balance when stress, cold or viruses come knocking.

  • Antioxidant: Protects DNA and cells from free radicals.

  • Antiviral : Studies show effects against HIV and Hepatitis C.

  • Antitumor: Inotodiol stimulates the self-destruction of damaged cells.

  • Blood sugar regulating: Supports metabolism in cases of exhaustion or insulin resistance.

  • Adaptogen : Helps your body to react flexibly and naturally to stress.

And yes, chaga helps if you simply feel drained. Studies (Zhong et al., 2015) show that it can alleviate fatigue .

It's not a caffeine kick. It's a quiet, profound source of energy, grounded, ancient, and yet cutting-edge. Perhaps therein lies its magic: the connection between nature, spirituality, and science.

The perfect duo for autumn: Shiitake & Chaga

While shiitake activates your immune system, protects your cells, and boosts your vitality, chaga acts like an internal shield against oxidative stress and chronic fatigue. Both mushrooms complement each other perfectly.

  • Shiitake for immune activation & metabolism

  • Chaga for antioxidant protection & adaptogenic effect

Together they offer:

  • 🛡️ Strong immune system

  • 🔋 More energy despite dark days

  • 🌬️ Support for colds & viral infections

  • ✨ Cell protection against oxidative stress

Recommended intake (liquid, glycerin-based)

  • In the morning: 5 ml of shiitake extract to activate your immune cells

  • In the evening: 5 ml of chaga extract for regeneration and antioxidant support.

💡 Tip: Combine both in a warming tea: 1 tsp in hot water (not warmer than 60°C) as a daily autumn ritual.

Safety Notice

Both mushrooms are considered well-tolerated. Chaga should be used with caution in cases of autoimmune diseases; if in doubt, seek medical supervision.

Conclusion: Shiitake & Chaga: natural power for your immune system

In a world full of stress, sensory overload, and unpredictable weather, you don't need a synthetic approach. What you need is balance. Shiitake mushrooms bring energy, chaga mushrooms bring grounding. Together, they are your herbal bodyguards for a healthy, alert, and resilient autumn.

🍄‍🟫 Now is the time to strengthen yourself, inside and out.
